Deemed “musical comedy heaven” by Variety and "a crowd-pleasing spectacle” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Prom is based on the book by Chad Beguelin and actor/writer Bob Martin. Based in small-town Indiana, it’s a satirical look at four past-their-prime Broadway actors who come to the rescue of a lesbian student who has been barred from bringing her girlfriend to her high school prom.
The Prom New York home: Longacre Theater
Located at 220 West 48th Street in Midtown Manhattan, the Longacre Theater has been a Broadway mainstay since its first opened its doors back in 1913. Named for Longacre Square, the original name for Times Square, the building was constructed by Harry Frazee, the onetime Boston Red Sox owner best remembered for swapping Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in order to support his theatrical ventures. Among its most notable productions are: Ain’t Misbehavin’, La Cage aux Folles and A Bronx Tale.
