The Rocky Mountain Way Tickets
The Rocky Mountain Way TicketsWith the 20th Century beginning to drift away, several music journalists, tour promoters and musicians began to consider a way to pay tribute to the many artists and music industry influences who helped to create the Rocky Mountain sound and called Colorado home. With many stops and starts, the idea seemed to have no legs. Chuck Morris, the owner of Boulder's icon club, The Sink, and Gary Brown, a music journalist, came together in 2011 and founded the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Beyond honoring one music genre or only artists, Morris and CMHOF's voluntary board, serves to also salute promoters, venues and radio stations that have enhanced and furthered the reach of the Colorado Rocky Mountain sound.
Who are some of the inductees to the Colorado Music Hall of Fame? All induction ceremonies of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame include a concert that pays tribute to that evening's inductees. The most recent induction ceremony was held in December of 2018 and inducted the legendary 97.3 KBCO radio station. Sending the signal far and wide, KBCO (Boulder, Colorado) was key in promoting the Colorado sound of acoustic, country-infused rock. Famous for its Studio C live, on-air concerts, KBCO has hosted performances including Robert Plant, Sting, Stevie Nicks and Ed Sheeran. Along with KBCO, iconic Colorado promoter and CMHOF co-founder, Chuck Morris, was honored. Other inductees who have been celebrated include music greats Judy Collins, Poco, John Denver and the late Dan Fogelberg. Other music industry inductees who have helped the Rocky Mountain sound achieve international fame have included KIMN radio, iconic producer Bill Szymczyk, fabled record studio Caribou Ranch and Harry Tuft, founder of the Denver Folklore Center.

What makes the Rocky Mountain sound so unique?Songs like Firefall's "Just Remember I Love You" and Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight" represent the Rocky Mountain style very well. A fusion of acoustic folk, country influences and soft but up-tempo rhythms made stars out of the late John Denver, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Dan Fogelberg. Easy on the spirit without being relegated to the "easy-listening" genre, the Colorado sound evokes campfires and mountain vacations.
When did the Rocky Mountain sound develop? In the late '60s and early '70s, some California bands like Buffalo Springfield and The Eagles brought country-rock fusion to the airwaves. At the same time, the folk singer-songwriters were in their prime. Artists such as Joni Mitchell, Harry Chapin and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were experimenting with and being inspired by all forms of music from jazz to country to world music.
What helped establish the Rocky Mountain sound? At the same time that environmental issues were being noticed, places with rugged, wild outdoor lifestyles like Colorado were gaining appreciation. Many musicians like Dan Fogelberg and John Denver, who were in search of a slower pace to recording and life, relocated to Colorado. Influenced by the mountain feel, they further fused their music, creating the Rocky Mountain style.
Who are the most famous Rocky Mountain sound musicians?Of course, fame can be relative and subjective based on the listener. Arguably, the fame title suits artists like Poco, America and Dan Fogelberg. Colorado and the majestic Rocky Mountains became the backdrop for musicians like Richie Furay (Poco) who started recording in Colorado after buying some Rocky Mountain property from fellow bandmate, Chris Hillman.
If I like the Rocky Mountain sound, what other acts should I listen to?Other bands who have a similar sound to Poco are the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and America. Solo acts with a sound like the late Dan Fogelberg include Kenny Loggins and Carole King.
