The Sound Of Music San Diego Tickets
The Sound of Music
The award-winning musical comes alive in this new production that follows the heart-warming love story of Maria and Captain Von Trapp, in Austria on the eve of World War II. Believing herself called to live as a nun, Maria finds herself sent by her Mother Abbess to act as governess to Captain Von Trapp’s children. She connects with the children through music and develops a relationship with them that no previous governess could. The Captain thanks her for returning music to his house. Despite his growing affection for her, he becomes engaged to Elsa Shrader.
Maria runs away when confronted with her strong feelings for the Captain, only to return at the urging of the Mother Abbess. The children are overjoyed at her return, which she says will only be until a new governess can be found. Politics interfere, and Elsa ends the Captain’s engagement when he rejects Nazi plans for Austria. Free to express their true feelings, the Captain and Maria become engaged and marry. Ready to live “happily ever after," they discover their story is only beginning as the world falls apart and threatens to destroy what they hold most dear.
Based on the true story of the Von Trapp family, the musical delights audiences with familiar songs like “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss” and of course the title song. A story for every generation, The Sound of Music explores questions of love and loyalty during tumultuous times in a unique and refreshing way.
