The Space of Westbury: Melting Pot of Talent

Since Westbury, NY, is known for its diverse cultures and welcoming communities, it should come as no surprise that The Space of Westbury has become a melting pot of talent. After undergoing a $10 million renovation, the venue opened for business and has since attracted a wide range of top talents from across the globe.

The Space of Westbury History

The popular Westbury Movie Theater opened its doors in 1927 with a showing of Clara Bow's hit comedy "Hula." The theater became a popular spot, especially for Long Islanders trying to avoid New York's busy downtown area. After decades of success, the theater underwent its first renovation to move from a one screen theater to two screens. Unfortunately, even this expansion would not be enough for the theater to compete with the new emerging multi-screen theaters, and it was forced to close just after the turn of the century. In 2013, brothers Cyrus, David, Stephen and Solomon Hakakian saw the potential in this 1920s tudor-style theater. After an extensive renovation project, the brothers opened the doors of The Space of Westbury in 2013.

The Space of Westbury Events

The Space plays host to more than 100 performances throughout the year, in addition to numerous private events, such as movie premieres, weddings and corporate events. The majority of events are musical performances in a wide range of genres, including rock, Christian, disco, Motown, blues, pop, funk and more. The venue has played host to such musical performances as Three Dogs Night, Indigo Girls, Steve Winwood and the Pink Floyd Experience. The Space also hosts film festivals, dance parties, stand-up comedy acts and MMA fights throughout the year.

The Space of Westbury Seating Layout

When ordering tickets, keep in mind that this venue offers 817 seats with three separate levels of seating, including the balcony and the loge. Many special events also sell general admission tickets, which is the standing room only section in the area directly in front of the stage. The use of this section expands the seating capacity to 1,500. You also will find four bar areas within the theater area, along with a lounge and cafe on the lobby level of the building.
