The Strokes is an indie rock band who comes from the heart of N.Y. All of the members of the band, Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti, befriended the frontman, Julian Casablancas, at a young age during different points in their lives. By a stroke of chance, they all remained friends with Casablancas who finally convinced them all to form a band together in the late 1990s. The Strokes released their first album just three years after they formed, and Is This It was immediately met with critical acclaim. Since then, the band became an international success, touring all over the world in large and small venues.
New York Meets the World Stage
The Strokes were met with international fame early in their career. They cultivated a New York low-fi style that was largely influenced by artists such as The Velvet Underground, Nirvana and Pearl Jam, and the world just fell in love their style. The Strokes' first two albums were met with praise and showed the world that a group of kids could really make the dream of forming a successful rock band a reality. The Strokes have received many nominations since their debut in 2002 and received a win in 2006 for Best International Band at the NME Awards
