The venue was originally known as the Texas ShowPlace when it first opened then changes its name to NextStage Performance in 2002 before becoming Nokia Live at Grand Prairie in 2004 and ultimately becoming The Theatre at Grand Prairie in 2010. Since 2002 the venue has employed artist Cabe Booth who paints oil paintings of the performers which are then signed by the artists and hung inside the venue.
