The Wandering Hearts are going places
They may have met up by chance, but London-based country quartet The Wandering Hearts subsequently plotted their musical course very deliberately. Their close vocal harmonies and bittersweet lyrics have won them fans on both sides of the Atlantic. How The Wandering Hearts found their home
A chance encounter at a 2015 gig brought seasoned British performers Tim Prottery-Jones and Tara Wilcox together. Both musicians and artists, they were then joined by A J (Alexander-John) Dean, formerly of rock band the Bluejays, and musical theatre performer Francesca 'Chess' Whiffing. It was the start of something special. Taking advantage of new media, the foursome uploaded a recording onto the internet - and rapidly found themselves signed by a manager. These 'free spirits', as they call themselves, are united by their love of folk music - as well as, by their own admission, a love for a good gin and tonic! Dropping their original tag of the Paper Hearts, the name The Wandering Hearts was born. Their first EP, Burning Bridges, quickly won them discerning fans. Signed up to Decca, they then produced their first album, Wild Silence. A trip to Nashville convinced band members that country music, with its memorable tunes and poignant stories, was making a comeback in Britain as well as the USA. "Everyone can relate to these songs, no matter what age they are," Tara Wilcox said in a national press interview. The Wandering Hearts and the bands they love
The Wandering Hearts' deft fingerpicking, rousing choruses, heartfelt lyrics and combined vocal harmonies owe a great deal to their love of Fleetwood Mac. They have followed the lead of bands such as The Staves and The Shires in the growing British Americana scene. Other influences include Cara Dillon, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp and Simon and Garfunkel. They have already won the Bob Harris Emerging Artist award and played a live set on the country music presenter's popular BBC Radio 2 show, toured with country star Marty Stuart and warmed up for Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks at the BST Hyde Park event in London. The Wandering Hearts also played at C2C Festival and took their music on a UK tour, performing at venues including the popular Latitude Festival in Southwold and in cities across the UK.
