The Whitney Houston Show Tickets
A touring theatrical production put on by Showtime Australia, the Whitney Houston Show features many of the most memorable tunes of the 1980s, which were originally performed by the soul singer. Starting out in Australia, the show has gone on to tour in most of the English-speaking world, including runs in South Africa and New Zealand, since it started in 2013. Directed by Johnny Van Grinsven, the Whitney Houston Show has also been a hit with audiences in the United States, Canada and Europe.
The Whitney Houston Show's format
Taking the structure of a live concert that might have been put on by Whitney Houston herself – had she chosen to sing all of her most popular tunes in one evening – the show is designed to honour the vocal talent and memory of the departed singer in a musical extravaganza. Whitney Houston has been regularly played by Belinda Davids, since the show started. She is accompanied on stage by a live six-piece band, which is able to replicate many of Houston's arrangements with a stunning degree of accuracy. The show is completed by a state-of-the-art lighting rig and a number of dancers who bring the performance to life. The tribute concert is professionally staged and runs for around two hours.
The Whitney Houston Show's vocal talent
During her highly successful career, Whitney Houston knew few competitors for the depth and style of her singing. With a huge range and a mercurial ability to leap between notes – even those very far from one another – casting a superb singer was essential to the success of a tribute show of this kind. In the person of Belinda Davids, the show's creators have found a soulful singer with a powerful, four-octave range who is able to satisfy concertgoers familiar with Houston's singular singing ability. In addition, praise has been heaped on Davids for her acting ability and close physical resemblance to the superstar.
Davids won the role of Houston following an open audition process, beating off several thousands of rivals in the process. Her crafted vocalisations can be heard on Houston's tracks during the show, including “I Will Always Love You”, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and the evergreen “How Will I Know”. Ballads such as “One Moment in Time” also feature, as does the big hit “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”, with Davids providing both power and expressiveness throughout.
