Owned and operated by the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Thompson-Boling Arena was named after the former university president Dr. Edward J. Boling and B. Ray Thompson. The grand opening of the arena was in 1987, and it serves as a home to both the men's and women's University of Tennessee basketball teams named the Volunteers and the Lady Vols. The arena was renovated in 2008, 2014 and 2018 with upgrades to the locker rooms, training facilities, more restrooms and environmentally friendly additions. The Thompson-Boling Arena seating maxes out at 21,678. Interestingly, it had a larger seating capacity until the renovations in 2008 when the upgrades reduced the seating capacity to its current level.
