Timber Timbre's background
Toronto native Taylor Kirk founded the band in 2005 and named it Timber Timbre in reference to the timber-framed cabin in which they recorded their earliest material. The group -- currently comprising vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Taylor Kirk, guitarist Simon Trottier, keyboardist Mathieu Charbonneau and drummer Mark Wheaton -- has undergone several line-up changes since its inception. Past members include violinist Mika Posen and drummer and keyboardist Olivier Fairfield.
Timber Timbre released their debut album, Cedar Shakes, independently in 2006. This was followed by a second album, Medicinals, in 2007. After signing to record label Out of this Spark, the band released their eponymous third album in January 2009. Their track "Water" was also featured on a compilation album, Friends in Bellwoods II, released in 2009 in aid of Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank.
Timber Timbre switched to record label Arts & Crafts Productions and re-released their eponymous album internationally in late 2009. The album made the 2009 Polaris Music Prize Long List and was named Album of the Year by newspaper Eye Weekly. In April 2011, the band released their fourth album, Creep On Creepin' On, and promoted it through a series of concerts in Ontario, Quebec and New York. The album debuted at No. 21 on the Canadian Albums Chart and made the 2011 Polaris Music Prize Shortlist.
A fifth album, Hot Dreams, followed in March 2014 and showcased a heavier, more rock and roll sound than previous recordings. The album received mostly positive reviews and was shortlisted for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize. After a short break from the charts, Timber Timbre released three tracks from their highly anticipated sixth album, Sincerely, Future Pollution, in early 2017. The album was released through record label City Slang Records in April 2017 and charted in multiple countries, peaking at No. 32 on the Ultratop 200 Albums (Walloon) Chart in Belgium.
