Based on the rich literary heritage of the famous 1960 novel and its 1962 film adaption with Gregory Peck, To Kill a Mockingbird revolves around the story of the lawyer named Atticus Fitch, his precocious children and his fight to exonerate a black man wrongly accused of rape in a small Alabama town. The story deals with the struggle for justice and compassion against the forces of prejudice and bigotry in the American South. Harper Lee’s original coming of age story won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize and has sold more than 40 million copies, making it one of the most popular novels of all time. From Pulitzer to a Tony
To Kill a Mockingbird was adapted to the stage by an all-star production team. The screenplay was the brainchild of Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin, who also worked on The Social Network, The West Wing, A Few Good Men and many other cultural touchstones. Producer Scott Rudin, who is notable for being one of the few people to ever win a Tony, Grammy, Oscar and Emmy Award over a single career, was in charge of unifying all this talent together into a cohesive whole. To Kill a Mockingbird premiered at the Shubert Theatre on December 13th, 2018, and it generated more than $1.5 million in its first week.
