The 2016 Summer Games begin August 5 and run through August 21, 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. More than 10,500 athletes will compete in 28 different sports, including swimming, track and field, gymnastics, diving, basketball, rowing, fencing, archery, volleyball, football and, for the first time, golf and rugby sevens.
Sporting events will be held in Rio, and there will also be football matches played in Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasilia and Manaus.
Among the athletes competing: Swimmer Michael Phelps, runner Usain Bolt, gymnast Simone Biles, decathlete Ashton Eaton, football player Neymar, fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, swimmer Missy Franklin, tennis player Novak Djokovic and gymnast Kohei Uchimura.
