Tom Papa background
Passaic, New Jersey-born Papa shares his life experiences in his stand-up. Family, friends, weight struggles, drunk girlfriends -- Papa covers all of it in his live shows. He started his career in New York City, where he played open-mic nights in the early '90s. During one show at the Comedy Cellar, Jerry Seinfeld was in the audience. Not long after, Papa toured with Seinfeld and showcased his extraordinary wit to a mainstream audience.
Papa is one of the few comedians to bring his stage act to the small screen. He has starred in numerous comedy specials, including Human Mule, which aired on Epix. Comedy Central and Netflix have been the home of other Papa specials. He is also a regular on the talk show circuit. Papa made 13 appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno -- making him one of the program's most frequent guests -- and he also appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Stand-up is his bread and butter, though. Papa has played comedy festivals around the world and amused fans with his no-holds-barred gags.
