What can I expect from Tropicalia?Tropicalia got its start in 2017. It is a great outdoor festival held at Long Beach's Queen Mary Park. This is a green, breezy outdoor event space near where the legendary Queen Mary ship is docked. The space holds about 15,000 people comfortably. Tropicalia attracts huge names from the worlds of music and food. This festival celebrates Southern California's eclectic culture, and Long Beach is the perfect place for this event. This diverse city of half a million people has given rise to iconic hip-hop, funk and punk bands over the past four decades. It's also home to great Latin nightclubs, which also have a big influence on this event.
How long is Tropicalia?Tropicalia is held over a weekend every year in early November. The music starts in the early afternoon on Saturday and lasts into the night as the last performers don't take the three stages until after 10 p.m. The music on Sunday starts late morning and again lasts into the evening with the final performers taking the stages after 9 p.m.
What other attractions are at Tropicalia?In addition to music, Tropicalia is all about food. Tacos are featured heavily in all different forms and with different ingredients. Past years have featured food vendors including Surfer Taco, GOT PAELLA, Tortas Ahogadas Guadalajara and Goodfellas Tacos. There's also great elote (Mexican corn) at this event. Dia de los puercos, burritos la palma and taqueria la venganza have also been on the menu over the years.
Who are some of the biggest names at Tropicalia?Tropicalia attracted huge headlining acts in 2018. Iconic British singer Morrissey was perhaps the biggest name on the bill. Cardi B was also there, rocking the crowd. They're both beloved by the Latin community in particular. The two performers were joined on the bill by acts like SZA, Mazzy Star and Devendra Banhart. The inaugural edition of the festival in 2017, attracted artists like Los Tigres del Norte, Chicano Batman, Jhene Aiko and Kali Uchis. This festival seems to grow larger and more diverse with every year, but the lineup for 2019 has not been announced yet.
