He expresses his thoughts on life and relationships through his catchy beats and smooth lyrical flourishes. His alias grew out of a MySpace page he maintained as a teenager in the mid-2000s. Tyler, the Creator showed prodigious musical talent from an early age. When he was just 16, he co-founded the hip-hop collective known as Odd Future along with Hodgy Beats, Left Brain and Jasper Dolphin. The group's first foray into the music industry was a 2008 mixtape called The Odd Future Tape. A year later, Tyler released his first solo mixtape called Bastard, which caught the attention of critics and rap fans alike. Tyler, the Creator released his debut full-length album called Goblin on May 10, 2011. It became an instant success, reaching No. 5 on the US chart and No. 2 on the rap chart. He followed it up with Wolf in 2013, Cherry Bomb in 2015 and Flower Boy in 2017. Two years later, he released Igor, which was his first album to reach No. 1 on the US chart. To complement all of his commercial success, Tyler, the Creator has received two Grammy Award nominations. The first nomination came in 2013 for Album of the Year as a featured artist on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange. The second nomination came in 2018 for Best Rap Album as a lead artist on Flower Boy. In 2011, he won the MTV Video Music Awards for the Best New Artist. Tyler, the Creator is prolific on the festival circuit. He has appeared at the Life is Beautiful Festival, the AFROPUNK Festival, Boston Calling, Coachella and Lollapalooza. Outside of music, Tyler has appeared as an actor on The Mindy Project and Punk'd. Between 2012 and 2014, he headlined his own show on Adult Swim called The Loiter Squad, which featured Tyler and the rest of the Odd Future group creating brief comedy sketches.
