U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship TicketsThe U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship is a week-long tennis tournament with a rich, established history that dates back to 1910. Not only is it one of the oldest tennis tournaments still running, but it also holds the distinction as the only ATP tournament in the United States to be played on clay courts. The inaugural event took place in Omaha, Nebraska, and with the exception of a decade-long stop in Indianapolis, it has bounced around between cities almost every year. However, the tournament organizers found a permanent home in Houston starting in 2001. Past winners of the tournament have included tennis luminaries such as Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors, Rod Laver, Andy Roddick and Arthur Ashe. Bill Tilden won the tournament a record seven times, including six-straight titles between 1922 and 1927. What is the format of the tournament? The U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship features a draw of 28 singles players and 16 doubles teams, plus an additional 16 players in the qualifying draw competing to make the main singles draw. The tournament follows standard ATP World Tour rules to create the draw. Players are seeded according to their ranks. While the first seed and second seeds are placed on entirely different ends of the bracket, the other seeds are placed in alternating orders on pre-determined lines. The remaining unseeded players, four of whom come from the qualifying rounds and several of whom are wildcards, are placed at random on the empty lines starting at the top and going down. Each match is a single-elimination best of three, meaning that the first player to reach two sets advances to the next round.
