UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony TicketsBeginning in 2003, the UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony has become one of the defining annual events for this organization that promotes mixed martial arts. The night of honor lets spectators see and hear from the people who have been important in the evolution of the sport. Fans have already seen the honorees in the Octagon use their skill sets from disciplines that include karate, kick boxing and jiu jitsu. In 2015, the induction categories for the Ultimate Fighting Championships were expanded to four: the Modern Era for fighters who made their debut on or after November 17, 2000; the Pioneer Era for fighters who appeared in combat before November 17, 2000; the Fight Wing for the two-man battles that made a great impact on the sport; and the Contributor Wing for people who, though not fighters, nevertheless helped the sport to grow. Note that, in the Fight category, both the loser and the winner are inducted into the HOF. Get your UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony tickets at StubHub.
How are UFC Hall of Fame selections made? The objective of the hall is to connect fans with the history and rich legacy of MMA as promoted primarily by UCF. Sometimes an honoree is selected because of the convergence of an anniversary, the schedule of the honoree or the storytelling benefits of the fighter’s or contributor’s accomplishments. UFC President Dana White and a select UFC internal committee make the choices. Candidates for the Modern category and the Pioneer category must be a least 35 years of age or have been retired for 12 months to be considered for induction. In the Fight category, the event has to have occurred at least five years before the ceremony. To be considered as a Contributor (official, judge, commissioner, promoter, trainer, commentator, etc.) there are no time constraints. Selections do not have to be made in every category each year.
Who were the first UFC Hall of Fame inductees?Royce Gracie, a member of the famed Gracie family of Brazilian jiu jitsu masters, won the UFC’s inaugural match on November 12, 1993, on a card that had eight men. He went on to win two more that night. He is credited with bringing many fans to the sport. Like Gracie, Ken Shamrock was a participant in those 1993 fights. On July 14, 1995, in a non-tournament fight, he became the first UFC superfight title holder.
Who are some recent UFC Hall of Fame inductees? The selections for 2020 will be announced later this year. The 2019 honorees were Diego Sanchez versus Clay Guida in the Fight category for their fight on June 20, 2009. In the Modern category, Rashad Evans, winner of The Ultimate Fighter (Season 2) as well as a UFC light heavyweight championship, was on the podium. Inducted into the Pioneer category was Michael Bisping who knocked out Luke Rockhold to claim the middleweight title on June 4, 2016. He was the first Brit to hold a UFC title. Rounding out the Pioneer grouping was Rich Franklin. He became the middleweight champion in 2005 by defeating Evan Tanner. The UFC gives the athletes a trophy, and beginning in 2018, they get a custom Hall of Fame jacket. This gift was given retroactively to all previous members of this exclusive club.
How many are in the UFC Hall of Fame?To date, five are in the Modern Wing, 17 are in the Pioneer Wing, six are in the Contributor Wing and five events have been recognized for inclusion in the Fight Wing.
