US Classic - Hopes Championship TicketsAnnually, the US Gymnastics program holds a series of meets that function as qualifying events for Team USA, the US national competition and competition at the World championships. The US Classic - Hopes is one of these competitions. Described as a fast-track, intense system designed to produce champions and held in conjunction with the Classic competitions at the Junior and Senior Elite levels, Hopes provides Challenge competitions for 10-13-year-old gymnasts considered hopefuls for the Elite program. Typically, the Hopes divisions consist of young gymnasts already active in the USA Gymnastics Talent Opportunity Program (TOP) and who may be competing in qualifiers for the Junior Olympics Program. All four divisions of athletes compete in the same qualifiers. The Hopes gymnasts work their way up the gymnastics ranks to obtain their Elite qualification. There is no single US Classic - Hopes, so you have the opportunity to see these gymnasts compete in Utah, Florida, Kentucky and other states. What is the Hopes program? The Hopes program and set of competitions refer to a modified pre-Elite gymnastics program for children aged 10 to 13. It was developed to help children who have highly developed gymnastics skills but are not yet ready to compete at the Elite level, which is comprised of two divisions: Juniors, 11 to 15 years of age, and Seniors, 16 and older. These children just miss the qualifying scores in compulsory and optional routines. They can continue to compete in the Challenge events at the US Classic events.
How does the Hopes competition differ from other levels at US Classic competitions? The Hopes competition uses slightly different scoring than the normal Classic events for Elite gymnasts. All children competing at this level continue to compete on all four apparatus. They do not compete against their Elite-level counterparts of their age.
On what apparatus will these gymnasts compete during the US Classic - Hopes Championship? In gymnastics, female and male athletes compete on different apparatus, but both genders compete in the floor exercise. For girls, that includes balance beam, uneven parallel bars, vault and floor exercises. For boys, that includes parallel bars, pommel horse, rings and floor exercise.
What happens when gymnasts attain Elite qualification?Once they qualify as Elite gymnasts, they begin training for the Junior Olympics or the Olympics, depending on their age. They will compete at the qualifying events for Team USA in an attempt to land a spot on the country’s Olympic team.
