McAlpine came to USC in 2014, following two seasons as head coach for the Washington State women's soccer team. During his first six years at USC, he has led the Trojans to the NCAA Tournament each season, including the NCAA Championship title in 2016, a sixth Sweet 16 appearance in 2019 and a third Elite Eight appearance in 2019. McAlpine began his first year at USC emphatically, leading the Trojans to their first NCAA berth since 2010. For his third season, he coached the team to their second NCAA title in the program's history, and they became the first Pac-12 women's soccer team to earn two titles and one of four nationally to win multiple titles.
