UTEP Miners TicketsThe University of Texas at El Paso got its start as the State College of Mines and Metallurgy. In 1914, college fielded its first football team. Technically, the football team predates the school. The Miners hit its stride in the Depression era, with a record of 66–43–9 under the legendary head coach, Mack Saxon. That era remains the best winning percentage in UTEP history. UTEP has never been a football powerhouse that contends for national championships. However, in the 2000s, the Miners have played interesting, effective football. Head coach, Mike Price, was at the helm from 2004 to 2012 and compiled a record of 48 wins and 61 losses. This is the best record since Coach Saxon's era. Coach Price is still loved by the school and its fan base. He returned in 2017 as an interim head coach, before Dana Dimel was hired in 2018.
