The VMI Keydets have had a few notable players throughout the years. Sam Horner was a 1960 round two draft pick for the Washington Redskins. He also played for the New York Giants. Horner played a total of 33 games with 574 offensive yards and one touchdown during his NFL career. Joe Muha was a 1943 round one draft pick for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was two times All-Pro Selection in 1948 and 1950. During his NFL career, Muha had 257 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Muha went on to be the backfield coach for USC from 1951 to 1952. In 1949, Bobby Thomason was a first-round draft pick for the Los Angelas Rams. Thomason also played for the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. He went to three Pro Bowls. During his career, Thomason had 687 passing yards, 1,346 pass attempts, and 8,480 yards. Ray Reutt entered the NFL at a unique time during World War II. At the time, many teams were combined due to manning shortages because of the war.
