Waitress tells the story of Jenna Hunterson, a woman with an abusive husband who is trying to find her way to a better place. Based on the film of the same name, the musical takes the audience into the life of the small-town waitress, who happens to be a great pie chef, unexpectedly pregnant and having an affair. Singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles wrote the music and lyrics for the show, which premiered at the American Repertory Theater in 2015. It moved to Broadway in 2016, taking the stage at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. In 2016, Waitress was nominated for Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical and Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical at the Tony Awards. It later won a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award. The Waitress U.S. tour kicked off in 2017, and the production now stops at venues such as the Artis Naples. Telling the Story Through Music

The movie was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. Later that year, the stage rights were acquired. After several years, a full creative team was assembled with Sara Bareilles being responsible for the musical numbers. The live performances include a six-member orchestra performing popular songs such as "She Used to Be Mine," "You Will Still Be Mine," "What Baking Can Do" and "Bad Idea." When Bareilles herself released the album What's Inside: Songs from Waitress, it debuted at No. 10 on the US Billboard 200 chart. Over her career, Bareilles has earned six Grammy Award nominations, including one for her work on Waitress.Back to Top
