Whitey Morgan tour dates
Guitarist/singer Whitey Morgan, the star behind Whitey Morgan & the 78s, embodies the ethos and sound of the outlaw country genre. His rich baritone voice, augmented by pedal steel-heavy beats and hints of fiddles, makes for a sound that's pure whiskey-soaked honky tonk, but Morgan and his band never let listeners forget their frigid Flint, Mich., roots. Hard-edged contemporary country music by the way of the Motor City is Morgan's signature.
Whitey Morgan's background
Whitey Morgan (born Eric Allen) formed Whitey Morgan & the 78s with inspiration from the outlaw country stylings of Waylon Jennings and more traditional country songs of Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. The outfit honed its sound playing clubs and bars around Detroit and Flint, soon becoming a popular fixture on the Midwest honky tonk scene. Early endeavors included a self-produced EP, before Whitey Morgan & the 78s released their debut album, 2008's Honky Tonks and Cheap Motels, which showcased a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "I'm on Fire." In 2009, the band won three Detroit Music Awards, cementing their status among of the Motor City's newest homegrown stars.
The band's 2010 release, Whitey Morgan & the 78's, reached No. 64 on the Billboard Country Albums chart, and No. 48 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Albums chart.
In 2014, Whitey Morgan and the 78s recorded 13 tracks for the live album, Born, Raised & Live from Flint, in front of a sold-out crowd at the Machine Shop. In 2015 came their most commercially successful album to date, Sonic Ranch. It peaked at No. 30 on the Country Albums chart and No. 10 on the Heatseekers chart.
