Wicked Atlanta Tickets
The Wicked Broadway production opened in 2003 and is now among the longest-running Broadway shows in history. Wicked's story is based off Gregory Maguire's book titled Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which itself was a reimagining of the classic book and movie called The Wizard of Oz. The Broadway show's success earned it a national tour that began in 2005. The tour gives Broadway fans all over the continent the ability to see this Broadway legend without having to make a trip to New York City.
They Call Him Wonderful
Wicked opens up with the birth of one of the most famous villains in American film history, The Wicked Witch of the West. The story follows the witch, whose real name is Elphaba, through her childhood and into her time at Shiz University. While there, she makes friends with Glinda, who would later become Glinda the Good Witch. Both girls wish to meet the "Wonderful" Wizard of Oz in the hopes that he will change their lives. When they do meet him, they both realize that the Wizard is actually evil and has a plan to turn all the animals in Oz into his slaves. Elphaba chooses to go against him, knowing that everyone in Oz will hate her. Glinda chooses to stay in the Wizard's good graces and, thus, in the good graces of the people of Oz. Elphaba sets out to make things right in Oz and loses much in the process.

How is the Wicked tour different from the Broadway show?
The touring productions are nearly identical to the Broadway counterpart. However, there are differences between the productions. A Broadway show has a home stage where it performs every show. The touring production doesn't have that advantage. It must adapt to the stages in every city on the tour. Some stages allow for Broadway-style effects, and others do not.
What themes does Wicked explore?
Wicked explores the theme of friendship through the relationship between Glinda and Elphaba. It shows them go from loathing each other to becoming close friends and then to becoming enemies when circumstances drive them apart, even though their love for each other is as strong as ever. It also explores prejudice. Elphaba was discriminated against since the moment she was born because she had green skin. She longs for acceptance and even for the Wizard to "de-greenify" her as she puts it.
Who designed the costumes for Wicked?
Costume designer Susan Hilferty was tasked with designing the wardrobe for the people of Oz. She took inspiration from the era in which the book was written and supposed what the wardrobes would look like as they evolved throughout the years.
Is Wicked appropriate for all ages?
Shows on the Wicked tour are recommended for ages eight and above. Many children enjoy the show, but many younger theater patrons do not have the attention span to sit through a full-length Broadway musical. It is up to parents to decide if their children of any age are ready to attend a Wicked tour performance.Back to Top
