Windsor Spitfires History
The Windsor Spitfires originate back to 1945. In the early days, they reached the league finals twice, and throughout the years, the team has seen themselves in different hockey divisions. In 1988, they not only became finalists for the Memorial Cup, but the Mayor of Windsor, Eddie Francis awarded the team the key to the city in honor of their achievement. It was also announced that the road to the new WFCU Centre would be renamed Memorial Cup Drive in honor of the victory. The Windsor Spitfires took the Memorial Cup in 2009 and 2010, reigning as champions for those seasons.
