The XL Center, formerly known as the Hartford Civic Center, opened in 1975 and is owned by the city of Hartford. It has played host to basketball and hockey teams as the home of the Hartford Wolf Pack ice hockey team and the part-time home of the men's and women's Huskies basketball teams and the Huskies men's ice hockey team from the University of Connecticut. It has also hosted rodeos, concerts, gymnastic meets, ice shows, circuses, ceremonies and speeches. Its official seating capacity is 15,564 for basketball games; that number decreases to 14,750 during hockey games due to the different configuration of the floor.
