Xtreme International Ice Racing TicketsXtreme International Ice Racing utilizes speedway bikes in their races. Speedway bikes have engines that are equivalent to a 1,200cc motorcycle put onto the frame of a mountain bike. The engines run on nitro methanol, which allows for running at a higher horsepower-producing level of compression. These ice speedway bikes have almost double the revs of a typical automobile and feature 1,600 sharp studs on their wheels for traction on the ice. The 90 horsepower to weight-of-the-bikes ratio is a challenge to achieve, and each rider gears their bike with 60- to 80-toothed sprockets. Xtreme International Ice Racing is considered the fastest sport played on ice and one of the altogether fastest sports in the world. The number of races varies from city to city on the tour depending on the number of local entries, but 20 to 25 races are what is typically expected. There are three kinds of races at these events: Speedway, Flattrack and Pro Quad. There are initial heats for points to qualify for the main event. How long are the races in Xtreme International Ice Racing?Xtreme International Ice Racing has extremely short races. A typical race might have four laps on these ice speedway bikes, which is the equivalent of 10 minutes on a motocross bike. The main reason for the brevity of the races is for the safety of the drivers. The bikes go from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds, and there are no brakes. With so little ice, the grip of the steel studs on the tires would hit concrete after more laps and cause the bikes to run into the wall. Another safety issue is that running at this level, the ice that forms the track would not last for longer races.
