As a young child growing up in Dahlonega, Ga., Zac Brown had a range of musical influences, including Willie Nelson, Bob Marley, the Eagles and James Taylor. In 2002, he started Zac Brown Band in his hometown. The band played over 200 gigs that first year. In 2003, the band started making headway when Zac Brown started his Home Grown label (now called Southern Ground). During that year, the group self-released its first album, Home Grown. While this album did not lift the band into mainstream glory, it included what would become one of its most successful songs, "Chicken Fried." In 2005, the group released Live from the Rock Bus Tour, its second album, under Brown's label. While it still didn't bring them huge commercial success, it built the momentum for a big break, which came in 2008. Zac Brown Band released its first major-label studio album in 2008, called The Foundation. This album featured a remake of "Chicken Fried," a single that quickly became a cross-genre platinum-selling hit. The album itself quickly achieved platinum status as well. Since then, the band has gone on large-scale tours and continued to produce award-winning singles, including "As She's Walking Away" (You Get What You Give album) and "Sweet Annie" (Uncaged album).
Following the impressive release of The Foundation — certified five times platinum — the Zac Brown Band became a household name. The group won a Grammy for Best New Artist in 2010 and won the Vocal Group of the Year award at the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards. Zac Brown Band's third major-label album, Uncaged, featured hits like "Jump Right In" and "Goodbye in Her Eyes." It was No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Its fourth major-label album, Jekyll + Hyde, also appeared at No. 1. The band backs up its studio success with exciting live performances. During the Black Out the Sun 2016 tour, Zac Brown Band sold out Fenway Park on two consecutive nights, packed well over 25,000 fans into Camden, New Jersey's BB&T Pavilion, and set a record for most tickets sold at a single concert.
