Formed in 1996 in Boston, Mass., the Dropkick Murphys were just a simple group of friends looking to play some music together for fun. The band originally started jamming in the basement of a friend's barbershop, marrying the musical inspirations they had grown up with - punk, traditional Irish folk, rock and hardcore. They attribute their sound to influences like punk rock bands the Swinging Utters, The Ramones, The Clash, the Sex Pistols and Irish rock band The Pogues. Much to the band's surprise, people were receptive to their unique style, and they suddenly found themselves recording music and touring consistently. They have released over 10 singles, four full-length albums and two EP CDs to date.
