Temple Owls Basketball Schedule

If you are looking for some high quality college basketball featuring one of the most storied programs in NCAA basketball history, look no further. A team that no one ever wants to face in the post season, Temple is always able to load their roster with some of the best basketball players on the East Coast. Liacouras Center is home to the Temple Owls basketball team and is one of the most raucous venues in all of college basketball. Temple struggled a bit last season, their first in the American Athletic Conference, and finished second to last with a 4-14 conference record. This season the Owls will look to improve on last season and should be able to do exactly that with leading assist man and second leading scorer Will Cummings returning for his senior season and leading a quality group of experienced and talented players.

The Temple Owls will once again have their hands full as they go up against some of the toughest teams in the country during American Athletic Conference play including defending National Champions UCONN, SMU, Memphis, Cincinnati, Tulsa, and more. It is never an easy task to make it through such a daunting conference schedule but Temple have a strong enough group of returning players to pull off some big wins and make a huge move up the conference standings that will hopefully result in yet another NCAA Tournament berth. The Owls will need all of the help they can get from their loyal fan base for their home games at Liacouras Center to pull off some major upsets. Tickets to see the Temple Owls play at home in Philadelphia always sell out quickly so be sure to get your tickets from StubHub as soon as possible so you can show the Owls your support.

Temple Owls Basketball History

The Temple Owls basketball program is one of the most storied programs in all of college basketball. They were the first ever NIT Champions back in 1938 and went on to become the sixth team in NCAA history to reach the milestone of 1,800 wins placing them in a league among such perennial powerhouses as Kansas, Duke, Syracuse, North Carolina, and Kentucky. Sure legendary coach John Cheney is no longer prowling the sidelines guiding the Owls, but the school's tradition remains as strong as ever. This season could well be a return to glory for Temple with a talented returning core that will mesh well with some big time recruits. Head coach Fran Dunphy is now in his eighth year at the helm of the Owls basketball team and has proven that he has a way to motivate his team and will have no problem getting the best out of a returning group of players who are yearning to prove that they are one of the dominant teams in their new conference. This is an exciting time to be a Temple Owls fan as they look to find their way to the top of their new conference and every die hard Owls fan will want to be in Liacouras Center to cheer them on to big wins.

Temple Owls Basketball Conference

The Temple Owls play in the newly formed American Athletic Conference which is also now the home of a few former Big East schools including the University of Connecticut and South Florida. The Big East has been in a tumultuous state for many years, with clashes between programs that had football programs and those that did not. The newly formed American Athletic Conference boasts schools from Texas to Florida and all the way to Connecticut. The dynamic conference has proven to be one of the best in men's college basketball since forming last year, with teams like Cincinnati and UCONN as perennial contenders. Cincinnati is the defending American Athletic Conference regular season champion, but the UCONN Huskies won the National Championship in 2014, bringing a National Championship to the conference during its first year of existence. Although it is only one year old there have already been changes in the American Athletic Conference, with the departure of Louisville and Rutgers and the addition of Tulsa and Tulane. With the American Athletic Conference shakeup, things may look a little different on the college basketball landscape, but no matter which conference they are in, the Temple Owls are a team with a storied legacy that continues to find success. Expect big things to happen in the American Athletic Conference in the years to come as new rivalries are established and it continues to prove itself as one of the premiere college hoops conferences in the country.

The Experience

Attending a top college basketball game is one of the best experiences to be found in sports. Many of the top student athletes in the world take the court in college basketball, when this is combined with some of the most passionate fans in all of sports there is an atmosphere in the arena that cannot be found anywhere else. When you set foot inLiacouras Center for a Temple Owls home basketball game this will all be clear. As the teams set up for opening jump ball the fans get on their feet and loudly cheer for their alma mater and hometown favorites. The game continues full of end to end action, big time shots, and clutch defensive stops. All of a sudden the clock is winding down in the second half and the two sides are wrapped up in yet another tight contest. Your palms get sweaty with each trip down the floor and each time a player from your favorite team lets loose a shot you hold your breath until the ball tickles the twine. This continues until the final buzzer when the Owls' side erupts after another big win and their fans exit of the arena in jubilation. The moment you leave Liacouras Center you will want to immediately start planning your next trip to the venue to cheer on the Owls.
