About Whiskey Myers

Whiskey Myers is a southern rock and country rock band out of Palestine, Texas, formed in 2007. What started as a group of friends learning guitar in East Texas turned into one of the more authentic acts on the national touring circuit. Cody Cannon and John Jeffers began playing together as teenagers, drawing from the catalogs of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams Jr., and Waylon Jennings. Cody Tate, Jeff Hogg, and bassist Gary Brown rounded out the original lineup, and the band spent years grinding through the Texas and Red Dirt music scenes before breaking through nationally.

The band has released seven studio albums on their own Wiggy Thump Records label, building momentum with each release. Firewater (2011) earned RIAA Gold certification and cracked the Top 30 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart. Early Morning Shakes (2014) climbed to No. 10 on that same chart and landed at No. 54 on the Billboard 200. Mud (2016) pushed to No. 4 on the Country chart, and a feature in four episodes of the Paramount Network series Yellowstone in 2018 sent all three of those albums into the iTunes country top 10 simultaneously. Their self-titled album (2019) debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Country Albums chart, No. 1 on Independent Albums, and No. 6 on the Billboard 200. Tornillo followed in 2022, and Whomp Whack Thunder arrived in September 2025.

Whiskey Myers operates independently, releasing every album through Wiggy Thump without major label backing. That independence shapes their sound and their live shows, which lean heavily on raw, guitar-driven southern rock with country and hard rock influences woven in. The band's catalog ranges from slow-burning ballads to full-throttle rockers, and their live sets reflect that range.

Who are the members of Whiskey Myers?

Whiskey Myers has six current members, four of whom have been with the band since its formation in 2007.
  • Cody Cannon: Lead vocals, guitar, and harmonica. Cannon is the band's frontman and primary songwriter, and one of its two founding members.
  • John Jeffers: Lead guitar, slide guitar, lap steel, and vocals. Jeffers co-founded the band with Cannon and anchors the group's southern rock guitar sound.
  • Cody Tate: Guitar, rhythm guitar, and vocals. Tate joined early as the third original guitarist, adding depth to the band's layered guitar arrangements.
  • Jeff Hogg: Drums. Hogg has been the band's drummer since 2007.
  • Tony Kent: Keyboards and percussion. Kent joined in 2016, broadening the band's sonic palette.
  • Jamey Gleaves: Bass guitar. Gleaves took over bass duties in 2017.

What are Whiskey Myers' most popular songs?

Whiskey Myers has built a deep catalog across seven albums, with several tracks earning RIAA certifications. Their most recognized songs include:
  • "Broken Window Serenade" (3x Platinum)
  • "Stone" (2x Platinum)
  • "Lonely East Texas Nights" (Platinum)
  • "Ballad of a Southern Man" (Platinum)
  • "Bury My Bones" (Platinum)
  • "Virginia" (Gold)
  • "Bar, Guitar and a Honky Tonk Crowd" (Gold)
  • "Reckoning" (Gold)
  • "Trailer We Call Home" (Gold)
"Stone" gained particular traction after the band's Yellowstone feature in 2018, reaching No. 9 across all genres on the iTunes chart.

What RIAA certifications has Whiskey Myers earned?

Whiskey Myers has earned multiple RIAA certifications across both albums and singles. Their album Firewater received Gold certification. On the singles side, "Broken Window Serenade" reached 3x Platinum, "Stone" hit 2x Platinum, and three additional tracks, "Lonely East Texas Nights," "Ballad of a Southern Man," and "Bury My Bones," each earned Platinum status. Four more songs received Gold certification: "Virginia," "Bar, Guitar and a Honky Tonk Crowd," "Reckoning," and "Trailer We Call Home." "Stone" and "Broken Window Serenade" also earned certifications in New Zealand.

What is the Whiskey Myers fan community like?

Whiskey Myers built their following the old-fashioned way, playing hundreds of shows across Texas and the broader Red Dirt music scene before gaining national attention. That grassroots path created a loyal fanbase rooted in the live experience. Their audience skews toward fans of southern rock, outlaw country, and guitar-driven Americana who value authenticity over polish. The band's 2018 Yellowstone feature introduced them to a wider audience, but the core of their following comes from years of touring and word-of-mouth. Whiskey Myers shows tend to draw crowds that know the deep cuts, not just the singles, and the energy at their live performances reflects that connection.
