Tennessee Volunteers Basketball History

The Tennessee Volunteers, members of the Southestern Conference, have enjoyed incredible success in their storied history. With four National Championships and 20 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history, the Vols have had more than their fair share of winning seasons, including reaching the Sweet Sixteen five times since 2000. The men in orange and white have been the pride and joy of Eastern Tennessee, thrilling fans and bringing many winning seasons to the University of Tennessee. Under Bruce Pearl from 2005-2011, the Vols made the the NCAA Tournament every season, even rising to #1 in the nation in 2008. After Pearl, the Volunteers have once again rebounded and look like a team back on the rise, giving fans optimism moving forward that they will again be able to shoot their way towards a title much sooner than later despite playing in one of the toughest conferences in college athletics.

Did you know that Bernard King was a three-time SEC Player of the Year?

Though many basketball fans know him for his stellar career in the NBA, where he starred for a handful of different times, King was nothing shy of a legend when he walked around the campus at the University of Tennessee. King was the SEC Player of the Year each season from 1975-1977, eventually ending up as a consensus First Team All-American in 1977. Following his brilliant college career, King would go on to be selected with the seventh overall pick in the 1977 draft by the New Jersey Nets.
